BAYEZA the 16 Young South Africans defining creative culture now
Between 10and5 have just revealed the 16 Young South Africans defining creative culture now!
On June 16th art and culture publication Between 10and5 released their definitive list of the 16 young South Africans who’re defining creative culture in 2016.
Released on Youth Day, which this year marks the 40th anniversary of the historical student uprising in Soweto, BAYEZA is the evolution of Between 10and5’s annual Young South Africa content series which has been running every June since 2012.
Uno de Waal, MD of Between 10and5, explains that over the past 4 years the series “has grown to be an implicit endorsement defining who we think is going to break onto the creative industry in the near future. Fortunately, our track record hasn't disappointed and we urge everyone to watch out for these 16 creatives.”
Released today (June 16th) BAYEZA presents the 16 young creatives sharing their thoughts, work, opinions and stories through original profiles, in-depth interviews and videos.
This year Between 10and5 is making a bold statement by repositioning the series as a definitive list of 16 individuals or collectives. Layla Leiman, editor of Between 10and5 explains the difficult task of narrowing the selection down to just 16. “After extensive research and observation of the current creative landscape in South Africa, the 16 individuals and collectives that we’ve selected for BAYEZA are the ones who, in addition to being exceptionally talented in their respective fields, have strong and important voices in today’s society. They’re influencers, sometimes even without knowing it, who are playing an active role in defining the fabric of contemporary youth culture and shaping the creative future of this country.”
In no particular order the 16 young South Africans in BAYEZA 2016 are:
